Surf Hydrofoil

As a personal challenge to replicate a $2k product in my garage, I designed and built a fully functional surf hydrofoil.

When hydrofoils were first entering the surf scene of Southern California, the effortless glide of surfing frictionless, 12 inches above the water piqued my interest. However, the $2k price tag for the entire setup (foil, mast, and board) was prohibitive to my budget for surf craft. I took this as an opportunity to see if I could make one myself.

By modeling the main wing in XFLR5, I was able to engineer a foil that would account for my weight, the density of saltwater, and the speed of an average ocean wave. I shaped the wings using bent plywood and reinforced them with multiple layers of fiberglass. The fuselage and mast were also constructed with plywood and were reinforced with layers of uni-directional carbon fiber.

LinkedIn Retail Coffee Bar

A premium coffee experience custom built for LinkedIn’s Sunnyvale HQ.

This is a project I worked on during my time at Capsule Manufacturing. As the lead engineer for this build, I took it from conception through delivery. The idea was to create a fully functional espresso bar that could be easily moved from place to place on the LinkedIn campus. This bar consisted of four modules that could be easily connected or disconnected for transportation.

The bar was constructed out of premium powder-coated aluminum and stainless steel. Equipped with onboard water and all the essentials of a normal espresso bar, coffee could be served all day wherever it was needed.

This is an iPhone stand with an integrated MagSafe Charger. The simple, unobtrusive design looks good on any desk or nightstand.

This stand holds your phone at the perfect angle for viewing notifications or hands-free Facetime at your desk, while keeping your phone charged. The 3/16” 5052 aluminum construction perfectly accommodates thickness of Apple’s MagSafe Charger and gives the stand a nice weight and sturdy feel. Its white powder-coated finish not only gives it a soft look and feel, but it provides a durability that will ensure it to last a long time.

Turntable Stand

I made this turntable stand based on one I had seen online, but with some improvements.

I used sande plywood for the panels and hairpin legs to give it a mid-century modern look. It features a display shelf in the front where you can keep your most regularly played albums and has storage inside for more albums.
