2011-2014
Ocean Lifeguard
My first job as an Ocean Lifeguard was to provide public safety through knowledge of ocean conditions and first aid. I was responsible or hundreds of beach visitors on a daily basis.
2014-2022
Ocean Lifeguard Supervisor III
As a supervisor I evaluated performance, gave constructive feedback, and provided on-the-job training to a large team of coworkers. I provided professional customer service by assisting the public and educating beach visitors about ocean conditions.
2019
Product Engineer
I modeled and fabricated prototypes using additive manufacturing to test functionality and user experience of my client’s idea for a new fitness product.
2021-2022
Mechanical Engineer II
I played a lead role in the design, engineering, and fabricating modular retail coffee bars and prefabricated building units. I worked in a fast-paced environment and got hands-on production experience, including operation of a Zund sheet CNC machine.
2022-2023
Owner
I created a small business to design, make, and sell soft goods products for travel and outdoor use. Each product was crafted by hand, by me, with close attention paid to the details.
2023-Present
Mechanical Design and Fabrication Engineer
As a member of Safran’s Innovation Team, I develop novel manufacturing methods, fabricate proof-of-concept prototypes, and conduct performance testing to validate new technology for next-generation inflatable safety products.
Hi, my name is Tyler Bernardin. I’m a Mechanical Engineer with a passion for turning complex problems into tangible solutions.
I work for Safran Aerosystems Evacuation in New Jersey as a Research and Technology Engineer, developing next-generation life raft and evacuation slide fabrics and their accompanying manufacturing methods. I graduated from Cal State Long Beach in 2019 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and have industry experience in 3D design, prototyping, fabrication, and manufacturing.
Outside of work, you can find me surfing, snowboarding, scuba diving, backpacking, or making custom gear for my ever-expanding list of hobbies.
